ETHOS EUROPE was born of a very visible need to remind us all of the importance of ethics in the day-to-day running of our institution. What are our main values?
TRUTH
“in accordance with fact or reality”, the most basic value of ethics. Are we sure that everything is done and said in accordance with fact or reality? The Staff Regulations oblige us to do so, but with time this concept and obligation has acquired a certain elasticity...

RESPECT
“due regard to the abilities, qualities or achievements of others”. It is essential in any collective body. In an institution such as ours it is a duty. Bottom-up certainly, but what about top-down? Not so sure. Appointments, promotions, staff reports, transfers are only some of the issues to be seriously reviewed if we want respect to be part of our daily working life.

COMMITMENT
“willingness to give your time and energy to a job, activity, or something you believe in”. This is what many dedicated colleagues do in their jobs every day. We do too. But we have added to our professional activities our commitment to defending an ethical approach in staff policy and management. We do not believe in Manichaean attitudes in these issues. However, the Administration sometimes falls into this trap. We believe this should never happen.

EFFICIENCY
no need to define it, nothing is possible without it. Staff representation MUST be efficient. It is our aim to improve this aspect of staff representation. Help us do it!
